Amyl Laurate is an amyl ester of lauric acid. It is a component of the lipoprotein lipase and may be used to synthesize ethylene diamine. Amyl Laurate is also a component of methyl ketones and has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative organisms, such as Escherichia coli, through its hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase. This process leads to the formation of fatty acids that activate the molecule and prevent the synthesis of dianthus caryophyllus.
