12-Methyltetradecanoic acid is a natural compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial and antitumor properties. It was found to be active against prostate cancer cells in vitro, by inhibiting the growth of cells by blocking DNA methyltransferase enzyme activity. 12-Methyltetradecanoic acid inhibits bacterial growth by competing with the essential fatty acids required for cell membrane synthesis. This compound also has an effect on activated human polymorphonuclear leukocytes, which are white blood cells that play an important role in immune response. 12-Methyltetradecanoic acid has been shown to inhibit neutrophil function, which leads to decreased inflammation and pain.
