Europium carbonate is a chemical compound with the chemical formula EuCO3. Europium carbonate is usually produced by precipitation from a solution of europium chloride and sodium carbonate, which reacts to form the desired product. The crystalline structure of Europium carbonate is hexagonal and has a diameter of 2.7 nm. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in hydrochloric acid and chlorides. Europium carbonate is used as an active oxygen source for organic synthesis reactions, such as the production of polyesters and polyurethanes. It has also been used in textile dyeing as an activator for reactive dyes.
