3,7-Dimethyloctanal is an unsaturated ketone that is a fatty acid ester. It has been used as a microcapsule particle and solid catalyst for the production of polyurethane foam. Its viscosity increases with increasing pH, which can be used in acidic conditions for washing clothes. 3,7-Dimethyloctanal has also been shown to have growth regulator activity by inhibiting the proliferation of human erythrocytes. Research has shown that this chemical can be used as a cationic surfactant and in detergent compositions. 3,7-Dimethyloctanal is a fatty acid ester made up of one long chain molecule with two carbonyl groups on it.
