2-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is an alkaline, catalytic compound. It is used as a phase transfer catalyst in the synthesis of organic compounds. The catalytic activity of 2-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is enhanced by the presence of alkali metals and strong bases. The transfer of hydrogen bromide from one solution to another takes place with the help of 2-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile and cuprous cyanide, which act as a catalyst for this reaction. This process is called phase transfer catalysis. 2-Bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile reacts with chlorine or c1-4 alkoxy groups to form haloalkyl radicals (e.g., bromide), which are then transferred to other molecules in order
