2-Bromo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethanone is a brominating agent that reacts with organic compounds by replacing a hydrogen atom on the organic molecule with a bromine atom. This reaction is used in the synthesis of phenacyl bromide. 2-Bromo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethanone can be crystallized from an organic solvent, such as ethanol, and has substituents at positions 2 and 4. It is soluble in many organic solvents. Trifluoromethyl groups are substituted at position 3.
