1-Benzyl-1-phenylhydrazine is a colorless to yellowish liquid used in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and other organic compounds. It is soluble in water and alcohols, but insoluble in ether. This compound is synthesized from the reaction of phenylamine with thiourea. The synthesis of 1-benzyl-1-phenylhydrazine can be carried out using sodium chloride as a catalyst. This compound has two structural isomers: 1-benzyl-2-phenylimidazoline (1BPI) and 1-(2'-methylphenyl)hydrazine (MPH). The functional groups present on this compound are an aromatic hydrocarbon group and a chloride group.
