5-Bromo-2-furamide is a hydrogen bond donor. It has been shown to inhibit the activation of phorbol esters by preventing the formation of protonated intermediates during their intermolecular hydrogen bonding. 5-Bromo-2-furamide also inhibits the binding of piperazine to its receptor site in vitro, as well as inhibiting the synthesis of pyrrole and amide products from substituted acetylenes. This compound is used as a synthon for propanamide and an acceptor for organometallic reactions.
