- acetamide, 2-bromo-N-(4-bromophenyl)-
Bromoacetamide is a reactive chemical that is used in organic synthesis. It reacts with sulfur to form 2-bromo-N-(4-sulfopropyl)acetamide, which is then hydrolyzed to form 4-bromophenol and acetic acid. Bromoacetamide can also react with hydrogen sulfide or elemental sulfur to form bromosulfonic acid. Bromoacetamide has been shown to be an efficient transformation agent for the conversion of ketones into oxalamides, which are useful in the production of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. The crystal structure of the bromoacetamide molecule in its unsymmetrical conformation has been determined by X-ray crystallography.
