N-(tert-Butyl)acrylamide (BBA) is a monomer that belongs to the group of hydrogels. It is a polymeric substance that is soluble in organic solvents and insoluble in water. BBA polymerizes with acrylamide to form copolymers, which are then crosslinked to form hydrogels. Hydrogels have been used as artificial skin, drug delivery systems, and wound dressings. The phase transition temperature of BBA is below room temperature, so it can be used in refrigeration applications. BBA has been used for the preparation of microcapsules and nanogels for different purposes such as drug delivery systems and chemical sensors.
