3-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)propanoic acid is a compound that inhibits the enzyme fatty acid synthase. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for the treatment of bowel disease. 3-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)propanoic acid is an analog of an endogenous fatty acid and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice with hyperproliferative diseases. This drug binds to toll-like receptor (TLR) 2 and TLR4, which are expressed on cells in inflammatory bowel disease. 3-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)propanoic acid also inhibits antibody response and particle release from cells, as well as reduced symptoms of inflammation in mice with colitis.
