1-Benzyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a prenylated indole derivative that can be used in the treatment of cancer. It is an allylated indole derivative that has been found to be active against stromal tumours. The compound has been shown to have a hydrogen bonding interaction with the amine group of isatin and undergo nucleophilic attack by the carbonyl group. These interactions lead to the formation of a 1,4-benzodioxane ring and ultimately, the loss of water. The 1H-indole moiety on this molecule is able to form a stable six membered heterocyclic ring with the allyl group, which makes it more potent than other compounds with similar chemical structures. This compound also has low potency in binding to model proteins such as hemoglobin and myoglobin.
