6-tert-Butyl-pyrimidin-4-ylamine is a pyrimidine that has been shown to be an effective nucleophile. It can be prepared by the amination of 4-bromopyrimidine with potassium and amide formation with ammonia. 6-tert-Butyl-pyrimidin-4-ylamine can also be made by the reaction of potassium tert-butoxide with 4,6dichloropyrimidine and bromoacetamide. This chemical is a good nucleophile that yields high yields with potassium as a base. 6-tert-Butylpyridinium reacts readily with halogens, such as chlorine and bromine, to form alkylhalides. It can also react with sodium or lithium metal in liquid ammonia to form amides. The chemical is not very reactive but it does react easily when heated or when exposed to water.
