2-(Benzylthio)benzoic acid is a crystalline compound that belongs to the class of organic compounds known as benzylthiobenzoates. It has been found to have a high yield and efficiency in the synthesis of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, which is an important intermediate for the production of various pharmaceuticals. 2-(Benzylthio)benzoic acid also serves as an antioxidant, inhibiting the oxidation of other compounds by hydrogen peroxide.
