1-Bromo-4-cyclohexylbenzene is a reactive chemical that has been used to circumvent the Cope rearrangement. It is also a dehydrogenation product of cyclohexanone and can be made from cyclopentadiene. This compound is unreactive, so it can serve as a grignard reagent. It has functional groups and underdeveloped functionalities, making it a liquid crystal composition at room temperature. 1-Bromo-4-cyclohexylbenzene can be synthesized by reacting cycloalkanes with Grignard reagents in the presence of copper or zinc metal. The complex molecules are not very stable and decompose at temperatures above -100°C, but they are highly reactive at low temperatures.
