4-tert-Butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde is an aldehyde that has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is a transition metal ionophore, capable of binding to the apical position on the substrate surface. The kinetics of this process can be studied by measuring the rate of fluoride release from test solutions containing 4-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and different anions. The orientation of the substrate with respect to the solvent affects the rate of reaction. Kinetic parameters for this reaction are determined by using an experimental method involving oriented films of lipid bilayers on glass slides.
