4,4'-Bis(2,2-diphenylethen-1-yl)biphenyl is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C14H12. It is an organic compound that emits red light when excited by light. The molecule consists of two benzene rings connected by a phenylene group. One of the benzene rings carries a trifluoromethyl group on one side and a phenyl group on the other side. The other benzene ring has an electron withdrawing group at one end and an electron donating group at the other end. This electron donating group can be either a nitro or cyano group, which leads to different colors of emission: green or blue respectively. 4,4'-Bis(2,2-diphenylethen-1-yl)biphenyl is used in fabricating LEDs, where it acts as a fluorescent substance that absorbs visible light and then emits lower energy light in the infrared region
