4,4'-(1-Bromomethyl)bis-benzonitrile is a cytotoxic agent that has been shown to inhibit the activities of a number of DNA topoisomerases. The hydrochloride form of this compound has shown cytotoxic activity against human tumor cell lines. 4,4'-(1-Bromomethyl)bis-benzonitrile has been used in research for the synthesis of analogues that have similar cytotoxic properties. This compound has also been shown to be an alkaloid and may have biological activities such as antimalarial activity.
