1-Boc-2-methylpiperazine is a potent, selective inhibitor of the enzyme tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B). It inhibits the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. 1-Boc-2-methylpiperazine was identified as a lead compound for cancer therapy. The crystal structure of 1-Boc-2-methylpiperazine has been determined revealing its molecular mechanism of action. This compound is an inhibitor of PTP1B, which plays a key role in modulating cell signaling pathways that regulate cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. 1-Boc-2-methylpiperazine also inhibits the growth of various cancer cell lines derived from human pancreatic tumors. This drug also inhibits the growth of mouse xenograft models in vivo, where it acts as a surrogate for PTP1B inhibitors such as GSK256066A or LY2886721. Optimization studies have been conducted
