It is used to activate purines, which are important for cell division, and also inhibits the uptake of adenosine by cells. 5-BROMO-4-NITRO-1H-IMIDAZOLE has been shown to be effective against trypanosomiasis, which is caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei. This compound is involved in the biosynthesis of imidazole ring structures and can be converted into fexinidazole, an antifungal drug that inhibits protein synthesis.
