3-Buten-1-amine is an acylation product that is obtained by the reaction of hydrochloric acid with an epoxide and ammonia or an amine. It can also be obtained by the reaction of a β-amino acid and formaldehyde, followed by hydrolysis. 3-Buten-1-amine has been shown to be a nucleophile in asymmetric synthesis reactions and it is used as a chiral auxiliary. This compound can be used to synthesize homoallylamines, metathesis reactions, allyl carbonate, and amides. 3-Buten-1-amine has been shown to react with thionyl chloride to produce oxirane compounds that are used as signal detection agents in chromatography.
