N-tert-Butylhydroxylamine HCl is a chemical compound that is a trimethyl derivative of hydroxylamine. It has been shown to be an effective neutralizer of nitrous acid, which can be formed during exposure to light and hydrochloric acid. N-tert-Butylhydroxylamine HCl also has been used in clinical studies as an inhibitor of iron absorption. This drug is a nucleophilic agent that reacts with the iron ion (Fe2+) to form the Fe3+ chelate, which cannot react with other molecules and thus cannot participate in redox reactions. It has been shown to inhibit aerobic glycolysis in cells, but does not have any effect on cellular oxidative DNA damage.
