Tert-Butyl 4-aminopiperazine-1-carboxylate is an antituberculosis drug that belongs to the class of tertiary amines. It has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties in vitro and in vivo. Tert-Butyl 4-aminopiperazine-1-carboxylate is a lead compound for the treatment of tuberculosis, with immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to be active against clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis, exhibiting bactericidal activity which is due to its ability to induce cell death by interfering with DNA synthesis and ribosome function. The drug also has cardiac toxicity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein kinase C.
