Bis(2-carbopentyloxy-3,5,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate is a fatty acid that can be synthesized by the reaction of 2-chloroacetaldehyde and 3,5,6-trichlorophenol. It has been used as an optical probe to detect fatty acids in cardiac tissue. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) can be used to detect the presence of this compound in heart tissue because it reacts with water molecules to form hydroxide ions.
