(S)-2-(3-(tert-Butyl)ureido)-3,3-dimethylbutanoic acid is a simple organic compound with antiviral activity. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of herpesviruses and other viruses in cell culture. This antiviral agent can be used as an optical reagent for determination of nucleotide sequences. The crystallization method for (S)-2-(3-(tert-Butyl)ureido)-3,3-dimethylbutanoic acid is the recrystallization from a solvent such as ethanol or acetone. The crystals obtained are white to light yellow in color, and can be found in both optically active and racemic forms. Industrially, this compound is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals, such as ibuprofen and naproxen.
