Informazioni sul prodotto
- Barium diiodide dihydrate
- Barium iodide (BaI2), dihydrate
- Barium(+2) Cation Iodide Dihydrate
Barium iodide dihydrate is a white, crystalline solid that is soluble in water and insoluble in organic solvents. It has a melting point of about 5°C and a density of about 4.4 g/cm3 at 20°C. Barium iodide dihydrate is used as a catalyst for the oxidation of alcohols to form carboxylic acids. The oxidation product is usually acetaldehyde or acetic acid, with other products being carbon dioxide and water. The product may be isolated by distillation or extraction with an organic solvent such as ether or benzene. This compound can also be made synthetically by reacting barium hydroxide with ethylidene dichloride (EDC).
