Tert-butyl 3-hydroxypropionate is an organometallic compound that is used as a linker in the synthesis of oligosaccharides. It has been shown to cross-couple with galactose and form a diastereomeric mixture, which can be resolved by chromatography. Tert-butyl 3-hydroxypropionate has also been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cell nuclei and extracellular targets. This compound induces cytoplasmic aggregation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and DNA replication.
