4-Bromo-N,N-diethylaniline is a reactive intermediate in organic synthesis. It is used as a reagent in the preparation of organophosphorus compounds and as an intermediate in the preparation of other compounds. 4-Bromo-N,N-diethylaniline has been shown to be effective against hypertrophy of the prostate and seborrhea when administered orally. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it may be due to inhibition of an enzyme that produces phosphotungstic acid or by binding to the DNA and RNA molecules.
