Bis(tri-o-tolylphosphine)palladium is a coordination compound of palladium. It is insoluble in diethyl ether, but soluble in water and other protic solvents. Bis(tri-o-tolylphosphine)palladium has been used as a catalyst for the preparation of ethyl acetate from acetic acid, acetaldehyde, and methanol. The yields of this reaction can be improved by using higher concentrations of phosphine or bis(tri-o-tolylphosphine)palladium. Bis(tri-o-tolylphosphine)palladium also catalyzes the hydrogenation reactions of alkenes to produce alkanes, alcohols to produce aldehydes and ketones, esters to produce carboxylic acids and alcohols, and epoxides to produce dihydrides.
