1-Benzyl-4-benzyloxycarbonylaminopiperidine is a p38 kinase inhibitor that has been shown to have a protective effect against environmental stressors. It was shown that 1-Benzyl-4-benzyloxycarbonylaminopiperidine reduces the activity of the p38 kinase pathway and inhibits apoptosis. This agent also has an inhibitory effect on the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNFα and IL-6, which are involved in the inflammatory response. The drug is currently being investigated for its potential use as an anti-cancer agent for squamous cell carcinoma.
1BZ4BCP has been shown to be well tolerated at doses up to 100mg/kg and stable in rats over 6 months, with no observable toxicity or changes in body weight, liver function, kidney function or bone marrow parameters.
