Benzyltriethylammonium borohydride is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst for the reduction of quinoline derivatives. It has been shown to reduce the functional groups in benzyl-substituted quinolines to form benzylic alcohols. Benzyltriethylammonium borohydride has been used to treat Alzheimer's disease by reducing amyloid beta plaques in the brain. This compound can also be used as an analytical reagent and can be used to stain proteins, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids. Benzyltriethylammonium borohydride has a polymorphic nature with two different crystal structures: one that is thermodynamically stable at room temperature and another that is kinetically stable at high temperatures. The thermodynamically stable structure occurs in the presence of alkali metals such as lithium or sodium hydroxide, while the kinetically stable structure occurs in the absence of alk
