D,L-Buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine is a basic compound with a sulfur atom. It has been shown to have antioxidative properties. D,L-Buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine can be used in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria or viruses that are sensitive to oxidative injury. It also has inhibitory properties against toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which may be useful for treating inflammatory bowel disease. D,L-Buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine can also be used as an anti-inflammatory agent and an antioxidant in eye disorders.
