2-Bromoacrylic acid is a biologically active chemical that has been shown to be genotoxic. It binds to DNA and alters its structure, leading to genetic mutations. 2-Bromoacrylic acid is a chiral compound with two stereogenic centers. It can exist in the form of either an S (levorotatory) or an R (dextrorotatory) enantiomer depending on the configuration of those two centers. The levorotatory form of 2-bromoacrylic acid is more toxic than the dextrorotatory form, as it is more reactive with DNA. This compound has been used in industrial applications, such as for production of plastics, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural chemicals.
