3-Bromo chromone is a functional group that has the general formula of CHBrO. It is a methyl ketone with an amine and heteroaryl substituent. 3-Bromo chromone is used in the synthesis of mirifica, a molecule that is used as an antifungal agent. The synthesis of mirifica involves activation of 3-bromochroman by sodium hypochlorite and subsequent reaction with chiral carboxylate. The resulting product can be purified by recrystallization and characterized using single-crystal x-ray diffraction to produce high yields of pure material for use in treatments for cancer, inflammation, or bacterial infections.
