1-(Bromomethyl)-3-phenoxybenzene is an active analogue of the pyrethroid insecticide, permethrin. It has an activity index of 10 and is a potent insecticide that is used to control musca and other flying insects. The compound has been shown to be toxic to the liver in rats and mice. This drug also causes peroxidation of lipids and DNA damage in hepatic tissues. 1-(Bromomethyl)-3-phenoxybenzene is not metabolized by mammals, but is converted by oxidation into 3-phenoxybenzaldehyde, which is then metabolized into mevalonate and benzyl esters.
