N,N'-Bis(acryloyl)-1,2-diaminoethane (BADEA) is a polymer that has a hydrated, hydrogen-bonded structure. It is a chelator for metal ions and can be used as an optical sensor for the detection of ethylene diamine. BADEA has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. The enzyme inhibitors in this compound are used during the process of polymerization to stop the formation of polymers that do not contain the desired monomer. This process is used to create polymers with specific properties such as being water permeable or having different phase transition temperatures.
