Benzamide is a potent inhibitor of Cox-2 that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis. It is also an antimicrobial agent with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Benzamide inhibits Cox-2 by binding to its active site and preventing the enzyme from converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. This drug has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in vitro and in vivo, which leads to reduced inflammation.
Benzamide is an amide compound that binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. The low potency of benzamide may be due to inhibition of cox-2 as well as inhibition of x-ray diffraction data, kinetic energy, and ester hydrochloride.
