1-Bromo-4-tert-butylbenzene is a colorless liquid that has been used as a solvent for the manufacture of some pharmaceuticals. It has also been used in the production of dyes, pesticides, and perfumes. In the laboratory, 1-Bromo-4-tert-butylbenzene can be used to synthesize other chemical compounds. The compound reacts with potassium ions in water to produce potassium bromide and trimethyl hydroxide. It also undergoes debromination with sodium iodide in water to form 1,1'-biphenylcarbonitrile and allyl carbonate. One use of 1-Bromo-4-tert-butylbenzene is as a substrate for patterning using xerography. This process involves exposing the substrate to radiation and then developing it using an organic solvent containing a halogenated hydrocarbon such as dichloromethane or chlor
