3-Ethylbenzylamine is an amine that has been used in analytical chemistry to measure the hydrogen bond of a solution. A solution containing 3-ethylbenzylamine, hydrochloric acid, and an acid will have a pH of less than 7. When heated, 3-ethylbenzylamine will react with fatty acids in the solution to form esters. The reaction between 3-ethylbenzylamine and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) leads to inhibition of the enzyme. This inhibition may be due to kinetic energy transfer.
