N-benzyldiethanolamine is a tertiary amine that is used as an industrial cleaner and detergent. It is also used in the synthesis of dyes, resins, and pharmaceuticals. N-benzyldiethanolamine has been shown to be effective against liver cells. This compound is a monocarboxylic acid with a hydroxyl group at the end of its molecule. It has a viscosity of 1.4 cP at 25°C, which makes it useful for detergents because it can reduce the surface tension between two liquids. N-benzyldiethanolamine has also been found to be highly reactive with chlorine atoms, which may explain its effectiveness against bacteria and other microorganisms that are resistant to other agents.
