1-Boc-4-cyanomethyl piperazine (BCMP) is a thiourea that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. BCMP is marketed as a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of cancer, but is currently not available on the market. The anticancer activity of BCMP has been shown in vitro and in animal models. It binds to DNA and inhibits its synthesis, leading to cell death through an antiproliferative effect. BCMP also inhibits protein synthesis and possesses antimetastatic properties. BCMP was found to be an effective inhibitor of paclitaxel activity, suggesting it may be used as a chemosensitizer for paclitaxel therapy.
