4'-Bromo-2'-fluoroacetanilide is a hydrophobic, fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It is used in the treatment of systemic bacterial infections. 4'-Bromo-2'-fluoroacetanilide is characterized by a high affinity for sulfate ions and has a low solubility in water. This compound has been found to be an effective treatment for Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis, as well as Gram-negative bacteria, such as Enterobacteriaceae and Acinetobacter baumannii. 4'-Bromo-2'-fluoroacetanilide is activated by organic solvents, such as acetonitrile and methanol, which are nonpolar solvents with low water content.
