3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one-1,1-dioxide is a diagnostic agent that binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and can be used to detect EGFR protein in tissue samples. It has been shown to have an affinity for the amino acid tyrosine, which is found in proteins such as epidermal growth factors. 3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one-1,1-dioxide is also an oxidative DNA agent that reacts with phosphite groups on DNA, leading to crosslinking of DNA strands and preventing replication. Monoclonal antibodies against 3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one-1,1-dioxide have been generated and are used for the detection of EGFR protein in tissue samples.
