6-Bromo-2-mercaptobenzothiazole is a heterocyclic compound that is synthesized by the reaction of 6-bromo-2-mercaptobenzothiazole with an activator. The yield of this compound is high and the method is efficient. The intermediates in the synthesis are sulfur and disulfide, which are generated in situ by reacting 6-bromo-2-mercaptobenzothiazole with sulfur trioxide. This reaction also generates sulfide as an intermediate. The intermediates can be isolated for further reactions by precipitation from solution or distillation.
