Bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-en-2-ylmethanol is a natural product that is a mixture of endo and exo isomers. This compound has shown to have receptor binding activity, which may be due to the hydroxyl group and nitrogen atoms on the molecule. It also inhibits the enzyme catalase and cyclotides, which are proteins found in plants, including some that are used in medicinal treatments. It is not yet known how bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-en-2-ylmethanol works in chronic bronchitis, but it may inhibit protein synthesis by blocking fatty acid release from cells or by blocking amide formation with the molecule.
