5-Bromo-N-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)-3,4-difluoro-2-(2-fluoro-4-iodophenylamino)benzamide (5BDPA) is a synthetic small molecule that inhibits the mek1/2 kinase enzyme and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. 5BDPA binds to the ATP binding pocket of the mek1/2 kinase enzyme, thus preventing activation of this enzyme. 5BDPA also contains a hydroxy group that may be important for binding to proteins. The formyl group on 5BDPA can be transferred from one site to another by nucleophilic attack by a hydroxyl or amino group on the carbon atom adjacent to the leaving group. This transfer mechanism is used to attach 5BDPA molecules together into larger structures. 5BDPA has been shown to bind human proteins such as αIIb β3 integrin
