4-Bromobenzylmethylsulfone is a fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting protein synthesis. It is a chiral sulfone derivate that binds to sulfur and prevents the formation of cysteine, an amino acid essential for protein synthesis. 4-Bromobenzylmethylsulfone also inhibits nitro groups, which are responsible for the production of reactive oxygen species that cause damage to cells. This agent also has an inhibitory effect on the growth of bacteria by binding to sulfur in their cell walls and preventing the formation of proteins essential for cell division. The 4-bromobenzylmethylsulfone can be used as a fungicide or bactericide.
