Boc-D-aspartic acid alpha-benzyl ester is a synthetic amino acid that can be used as a substrate for peptidyl transferase reactions. It is an inhibitor of glutamic acid decarboxylase, which is the enzyme responsible for converting glutamate to GABA in the brain. Boc-D-aspartic acid alpha-benzyl ester has been shown to inhibit other enzymes in the glutamate pathway, such as l-amino acid oxidase, DOPA decarboxylase, and others. Boc-D-aspartic acid alpha-benzyl ester has been shown to inhibit cancer cells in culture by blocking the synthesis of proteins essential for cell growth and proliferation. This compound also showed significant inhibition of cancer cells when tested in vivo.
