3-Benzylpiperidine is a molecule with the chemical formula C10H14N2. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of cholinesterase and 5-HT reuptake, and has also been used as a chemokine receptor antagonist. It also has potential in treating depression. 3-Benzylpiperidine is not active when taken orally, but can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. 3-Benzylpiperidine is synthesized by chemical means from piperidine and benzaldehyde, two molecules that are readily available. This synthesis can be accomplished through a variety of methods, including substitution reactions or disubstitution reactions. 3-Benzylpiperidine has been tested for various activities in different assays, including those for pharmaceutical preparations.
