1,3,5-Benzenetriethiol (BET) is a thiol with the chemical formula CH2SH. It is an important chemical that participates in many reactions and has a variety of applications. BET can be used as a nucleophile in nucleophilic substitution reactions because it has a lone pair on sulfur and high electron density at sulfur. BET also has the ability to bind to lithium metal and activate it for use in lithium-ion batteries. BET can form monolayers on surfaces or act as bifunctional agents in polymer blends. It can be used as an adsorbate for chromatography or as a gel permeation chromatography stationary phase. BET is chemically stable, which makes it useful for rechargeable batteries and other electrochemical energy storage devices.
